I thought that pharmacists were supposed to cross check patients' prescriptions anyway....what is the point of a national drug database if they aren't checking?
From handbag gossip:
Two doctors are being investigated in the US by the federal drug authorities over prescriptions given to Heath Ledger before his death on 22 January. It is thought the matter being investigated is whether or not the powerful painkillers were prescribed legally. A doctor in Texas and another in California are thought to have supplied Ledger with Oxycontin and Vicodin, although it's not certain whether any wrongdoing is involved. Ledger's autopsy results have been subpoenaed by the US Drug Enforcement Administration, who will look into the source of the Brokeback Mountain actor's prescriptions, which included anti-anxiety medication, painkillers, antihistamines and sleeping aids.
